When choosing your new recliner, first consider the following:

  1. Do you want an electrically controlled recliner?
  2. Do you need seat lift or stand-up assistance?
  3. What width and height should the chair be?

This guide will help you find answers. Here, you can read about different chair types and settings, so you're well-prepared to choose the perfect recliner.

Recliners with Multiple Features – All You Need to Know

The first thing to decide is whether you prefer a chair with or without a built-in electric motor. Wondering what that means? Read on to find out.

1. Electric Recliner Chair

At Seniorshop, you can choose an electric recliner, which connects to a power outlet and is operated using a remote control. Electric recliners are very popular because you can effortlessly recline at the touch of a button. They are particularly suited for individuals with limited mobility or difficulty in sitting and standing.

Many of our recliners come with a 'stand-up' feature that helps you rise from the seat easily without straining your body. You can read more about the stand-up assistance feature below. Besides, the remote allows you to adjust the backrest and footrest at will.

You can choose a recliner with either a few or several settings. For example, a model with two motors lets you adjust the backrest and footrest separately. This allows you to elevate just the footrest while sitting upright or recline without extending the footrest.

Alternatively, go for the standard version with a single motor, where the backrest and footrest move together. All motorized chairs are operated via an attached remote. Note that more features mean more buttons on the remote. A basic chair might have between two and four buttons, whereas more advanced models feature additional buttons.

You can always choose a manual recliner without a motor, using your own strength to adjust it. Whether manual or electric, the backrest and footrest can still be adjusted as shown here:

2. Recliner with Stand-up Assistance – Ideal for Weary Legs

Recliners with seat lift or “stand-up assistance” are also extremely popular, especially among those with weakened leg strength. This feature is only available in motorized recliners and is designed to help you get in and out of the chair comfortably.

As the name suggests, a seat lift gently raises the chair seat, bringing you to an almost standing position, making it easy to exit and re-enter the chair.

3. Size

The goal of a recliner is to provide maximum comfort, so we offer them in various sizes to suit your body and preferences. When choosing the right size, focus on the seat width and the height of the chair.

Seat Width: Choose from small, medium, large, or sometimes extra-large sizes. Most people fit comfortably in a medium chair, but all dimensions and recommendations are available on our website.

Height: Once you've determined the seat width, decide on the chair's height—either low, medium, or high. The chair's height should match your own; if you are shorter, a lower chair might be more suitable.

If you're unsure about the size, you can measure your favorite chair at home for reference.

Discover Your New Himolla, Farstrup, or Sorø Recliner

At Seniorshop, we offer three well-known and popular brands: Himolla, Farstrup, and Sorø. These brands are renowned for exceptional quality and design. Here’s a little more about each brand.

Himolla Recliners

The German brand Himolla is incredibly popular, and for good reason. It's synonymous with handcrafted German quality, offering chairs that can be customized according to your preferences. Founded in 1948 as a small family business, Himolla has grown significantly. Durability and craftsmanship are vital, with Himolla recliners designed to last for many years.

Choose from custom-made Himolla chairs, which take a bit longer to deliver as they are built to order, or opt for ready-made chairs available in stock for faster delivery.

Himolla recliners come with a built-in footrest, allowing you to easily prop your feet up.

Farstrup Recliners

Farstrup is a Danish brand known for its elegant Nordic design and exceptional hand-crafted furniture. A Farstrup recliner offers great value, with customizable options to match your personal needs and style.

For those who appreciate clean Nordic lines and quality local craftsmanship combined with outstanding comfort, Farstrup is ideal. All Farstrup recliners are crafted in Denmark, featuring high-quality frames made from solid beech or oak, with molded seating for comfort.

The adjustable models let you modify the seat and backrest, either mechanically or electronically using a remote. You can also find models with stand-up assistance to ease getting on your feet.

Sorø Recliners

Sorø offers beautifully designed and high-quality recliners. A Sorø recliner is available with a separate footrest and, like Himolla and Farstrup, can be chosen with either electric or manual operation. The design is simple and classically Nordic—an extremely comfortable chair that doubles as a stylish piece for your living room.

Recliner Chair with Swivel Base or Legs?

Another choice to consider is whether you want a fixed or swivel model. Fixed recliners usually have four legs, while swivel recliners rest on a base that can turn.

A swivel base is a clever solution, allowing you to change positions without moving the entire chair. This is great for watching TV in the evening and then turning the chair to enjoy the view during the day.

Integrated or Separate Footrest?

Some of our recliners come with an integrated footrest, which can be extended as needed. Others have a separate footrest, like the Sorø and Farstrup recliners. Whether you prefer one type over the other is entirely up to personal taste.

An integrated footrest conveniently retracts with a simple push of a button on a remote, meaning it doesn't take up extra space as a separate piece might, which is perfect for smaller areas.

On the other hand, a separate footrest can be a stylish piece by itself. Many of our footrests include a handy storage space for magazines, for example.

Note that some footrests need to be purchased separately, while others are included with the recliner purchase. This information is always clearly indicated on each product page.

Choose a Leather or Fabric Recliner

The special feature of Seniorshop recliners is that they can be tailored to your specific needs—especially when it comes to color and style. Select your recliner in the upholstery and color that best suits your taste and fits your home. You could opt for a leather chair or fabric upholstery that's stain-resistant and easy to clean. We also offer options suitable for incontinence.

Many prefer leather due to its durability, stain resistance, and ease of maintenance. A leather recliner provides an exclusive and comfortable seat that remains beautiful over time. In fact, leather develops an attractive patina, giving your chair even more character and distinction.

We offer hundreds of color options and various fabric types to choose from for your recliner.
